Further details of Dave's direct Abbott ancestors.

The following sections contain details transcribed from documents such as census, birth, marriage and death certificates, parish records, newspapers, etc.

Unless otherwise stated, we have transcribed directly from the original document or from a scanned or photographic image of the original document.

Edward Abbott.

So far I know little about Edward. He was born sometime between 1810 and 1820, and lived at some point in Helsby, Cheshire.
According to census records, his son Thomas Abbott, (1836 - 1885), was born in Helsby, but I have not found a baptism record.
Baptisms for his sons, William and George, are recorded in the register for the Parish of Frodsham on 14th February 1841 and 6th March 1844 respectively.

This entry for the "Habbot" family in the 1841 census seems to match with Thomas's birthdate, and birthplace, Helsby. Edward is not present.

Thomas Abbott.

In Brief:

In detail:

Birth.
From census details we know that Thomas was born in Helsby, Cheshire, about 1836, but so far have not found a record of the birth.

This entry for the "Habbot" family, in the 1841 census, seems to match with Thomas's birthdate, and birthplace. His father, Edward, is not at home.

Thomas' marriage, (from certificate).

Thomas married Sarah Webb on 13th December 1857 at St Nicholas Church, Liverpool.
Thomas is described on the marriage certificate as a labourer, from Hardy Street, son of Edward Abbott, labourer.
Sarah lived in Gt. George Square, and was daughter of Richard Webb, labourer.
Witnesses were William Jones and ?? Jones (Most likely Ann, Sarah's sister, wife of William Jones)
Link to Hardy Street and Gt George Square at NLS. Link to Hardy Street and Gt George Square at NLS
Link to Hardy Street and Gt George Square at Google Maps. Link to Hardy Street and Gt George Square at Google Maps
Gt. George Square was one of Liverpool's finest, and Hardy Street effectively forms one side of the square. It is most likely that Sarah and Thomas were both living in lodgings in order to qualify as living in the parish of St Nicholas. They were possibly in the same lodging house or hotel, both quoting the address slightly differently to avoid suspicion of co-habiting.
