Dave's Ancestors - Ryley (Riley) Family

The Ryley (Riley) Family.

The family name is sometimes Riley on earlier documents but since it settled to become Ryley on later documents, I will use this spelling unless quoting directly.

Generation 1

The name Paston crops up as a forename in subsequent generations so is the most likely mother of Rupert (1737 - 1806), my direct ancestor.)

At his baptism the family was now living in Parliament Street.

Profession

On most documents, Benjamin is simply described as an engineer, but at his daughter, Catherine's, second marriage, to Martin Thomas Russell, in 1853, he is described as a civil engineer. He was listed as an engineer at 3 Dwerry House Street in Baines Directory of 1824 and 1825, (which was already out of date since, by 1823, he had moved to Parliament Street, a desirable address in those days)..
In an article from the Liverpool Mercury of 10th June 1825 he is listed as one of 24 to form a committee of management for the newly formed Liverpool Mechanics Institute.
