In Brief:

In detail:

Possible marriage.

James certainly married a lady named Margaret. It is possible (but not proven) that he married Margaret Lyon on 17th May 1819 at St Peter, Liverpool.

Children of James and Margaret:

Mary Rigby (1820 - )
[Baptised on 17th July 1820 at St Peter, Liverpool. Address of parents, Bridport Street, Liverpool. Father: James, a labourer.]
William Henry Rigby (1825 - 1879)
[Baptised on 8th May 1825 at St Peter, Liverpool. Address of parents, Harford Street, Liverpool. Father: a labourer. First wife Eliza McKee (1833? - ), second wife Elizabeth Ryley Nixon (1831 - 1907)]
Josiah Rigby (1828 - )
[Baptised on 24th March 1828 at St Peter, Liverpool. Address of parents, Harford Street, Liverpool. Father: James, a tanner.]
Edward Rigby (1835 - )
[Baptised on 18th May 1835 at St Peter, Liverpool. Address of parents, Parliament Street, Liverpool. Father: James, a labourer.]

1841 census.
Murray Court, Wright Street, Toxteth Park.
(In later years, Wright Street became Brassey Street
and Murray Court became Court 16).

Margaret Rigby, age 40, not born in the same county.
William Rigby, age 15, turpentine distiller.
Josiah Rigby, age 12.
Edward Rigby, age 6.

James Rigby's Death

James Rigby was buried, aged 45, on 12th December 1843 at St James Cemetery. His address in the register is Wright Street.

James's widow, Margaret:

The 1851 census shows Margaret with her sons, William Henry and Josiah, in Clive Street.
No 7 Court, House 4, Clive Street, Toxteth Park. (Dickinson Terrace on earlier maps.)

Margaret Rigby, age 63, widow, (William Henry's mother), parish relief, born Cheshire, Kirby. (Would this be West Kirby?).
William Rigby, age 28, (stated as married but believed to be widowed by this date), Dock Labourer, born Toxteth Park.
Josiah Rigby, age 23, Dock Labourer, born Toxteth Park.
Edward Rigby, age 15, born Toxteth Park.
Mary (or Marg?) Rigby, age 3, Margaret's grandaughter, born Toxteth Park. (William Henry's daughter, Margaret? If not, to whom does she belong?)

The 1861 census shows Margaret living with her son, William Henry Rigby, in Woolf Street.

William Henry Rigby, widower, age 35, Dock Labourer, born Lancashire, Liverpool.
Margaret Rigby, daughter, age 13, born Lancashire, Liverpool.
Margaret Rigby, age 69, William's mother, widow, born Lancashire, Liverpool.

I believe that Margaret died in 1865. There is a burial of a Margaret Rigby in Toxteth Park Cemetery, aged 61, a widow from 3 Court, Llanrwst Street.
(This would make her birth date 1804)
