Fylde
The Fylde is an area on the Irish Sea coast of Lancashire, about 12 miles square, with Preston, on the Ribble estuary to the south, and Lancaster on the Lune estuary to the North.
My Whiteside and Ormond ancestors are traceable to this area at least into the eighteenth century, while the Wilson and Leadbetter families moved here from south of the Ribble estuary to the newly emerging town of Fleetwood in the nineteenth century and helped to establish the fishing industry there.
